Build and animate a simple character!
I have to say that this is an incredible, amazing good job on blender tutorials i have find online, people (blender’s lovers like me) haven’t find out yet, you need to spread out the voice more =)
June 8th, 2007 at 7:05 pmEncodi, Thanks! Sorry I didnt notice your comment was in ‘waiting approval’ I am a bit new to this blogging thing…
June 15th, 2007 at 9:06 pmWonderful. One of the easiest to follow tutorials I have encountered and I actually finished! Well not quite it’s rendering as we speak. Was was your render time for people that did it? Given i’m on an old machine i’m looking at about 2.5 hrs. lol I hope it’s worth the wait.
Spread the news.. i don’t think this is widely known. Thanks again
TJ
June 17th, 2007 at 11:21 pm2.5 hrs is good for an animation, sometimes if you are doing a large and complex ray-traced scene with, say, caustics and transparency effects etc. it can take that long for a single image!
Glad you found the course usefull, Blend on!
Roy.
June 18th, 2007 at 7:15 amHey,
Thanks so much for this guide. you know, at first i thought i was only gonna learn noob stuff from this city but the stuff i learned from the lighting and the refections is awesome!
Thanks again! now on to part 2!
June 30th, 2007 at 7:54 pmHi Daniel,
Glad you are finding it usefull
Yes, lighting can make a huge difference; hope you get on okay with part 2.
July 1st, 2007 at 11:38 amHi,
July 1st, 2007 at 6:47 pmthese tutorials are absolutly amazing! i was playing around with blender since 2 years, and read many, many tutorials. this was wasted time… all i need is on this site. keep up the great work! thank you! thank you!
Thanks Phil! High praise indeed!. Hope you continue to have fun with Blender.
July 2nd, 2007 at 9:41 amReally incredible of teaching blender, i used to learn some flash video like this, but your video very very impressed on me.
i love it so much. Hope you keep this way to share and help people like me.
Thanks.
August 15th, 2007 at 2:55 pmHi Nguyen, Glad you have found it useful. I hope to keep the site going as place for people to learn Blender 3D.
August 15th, 2007 at 5:03 pmA quick note of thanks roys…your efforts are appreciated. I can use your city/flythrough concept as a good intro to 3D for students at my school
September 1st, 2007 at 4:43 amYour tuts are very well thought-out. Good work!!
One word: Excellent! Flash is the right technology for a tutorial like this. Typical video tutorials require you to concentrate much attention on clicking the pause button rather than learning the material. Nice job!
September 3rd, 2007 at 2:24 pmWow. A very cool and helpful series. I kinda wish there was a way to download these lessons for later, but that’s cool. Thanks Roy.
***Reply from Roy*** Well it is possible, they are flash files and not logically named go here http://www.brillsoft.com/tuts/
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:32 amand right click save as aa.swf and aa.htm (for example
This has been the best set of Blender tutorial videos I’ve seen. Great Work! Please make more!
October 4th, 2007 at 5:54 pmThank you very much for your help :))
October 25th, 2007 at 7:40 pmAwesome tut!
Helped me looooaaads on Blender!
The city actually looks a bit realistic, and I love the animation!
Tytytyty!!
October 28th, 2007 at 5:56 pmWow, these are great tutorials. I learned a good deal. Thanks for making them!
November 16th, 2007 at 12:52 amI’ll second, third, fourth and whatever that these are the best beginning tuts I’ve seen so far. Clean, clear, and even thought I’ve been using Blender for a while, there were some shortcuts and keys that I had missed that are going to make my work much easier.
Thanks for your wonderful work!
**Reply By Roy*** Thanks Carol, glad you found them usefull, Have fun!
February 10th, 2008 at 2:38 amI just finished the begginer 1 tutorials. They are so well laid out and easy to follow. I still can’t believe I actually made that fly through. Even better though, was how much I learned while making it. These are so clear and so easy to understand. You certainly are an awesome teacher.
On to number 2!
Thank you.
February 28th, 2008 at 6:02 amBest tutorials I’ve seen so far- it was like a suspenseful movie and was finding it hard to get up and go to the bathroom midway through.
March 25th, 2008 at 10:53 amThis was my first time using any tutorial for Blender. Your tutorial is first rate. I like the Power Point - like approach. Keep up the good work.

April 9th, 2008 at 3:38 amI’ve tried several tutorials and never found video tuts to useful and tend to look for pdfs, However these are by far the best video tutorials I’ve seen. Clean straight forward easy to follow step by step.
April 17th, 2008 at 6:56 amVery well thought out. Excellent!
looking forward to seeing even more in the future, just excellent!
PS - even my 11 year old son can follow these, very cool!
Fantastic concept, you cover so much ground in such short time, and all the while the user has time to follow - like someone above said no need to pause and start all the time.
I have one question though, I have found that clicking and holding LMB brings up the “add” menu, but all tutorials I have seen says to press space, is there a reason for this?
Thanks for your effort it’s apreciated
Jakob
***Reply by Roy*** Thanks Jakob. You have discovered there are often many ways to do the same thinks in Blender, as you rightly say, holding LMB for a few seconds brings up the add menu. Also there are loads more hotkeys than I have mentioned. I found this ref pdf you may find usefull…http://download.blender.org/documentation/BlenderHotkeyReference.pdf
April 19th, 2008 at 9:17 pmThanks a very, very lot.
This is so far the most effective tutorial-system I’ve experienced, and your ability to cover what is needed in short, precise steps is amazing. Thanks for making this free, I know it helps many the same way it helped me. Also, I must agree on the idea of you making donations possible, if that in any way helps keeping you posting
I’d donate for sure. Thanks again.
